G is for Gentlemen

As in Gentlemen Prefer
What do gentlemen prefer? From the pics in this pattern book, I’d say each other. Or the fruit (notice the placement of those bananas).

I saw this in the book from SIL, and thought I must have it. Found it on ebay, and it was here very quickly and for under $3.50. Cheap entertainment!

Do all they guy sweater books have men with rods?

The rest of the pictures from this booklet are at the bottom of this flickr set. Were men’s trousers tighter back in the day? Were they like the Hotel Syracuse (no ballroom)? Or is it to whet our appetites that these model’s drawers are a tad snug in certain areas?

Oh my God, I had to laugh out loud over this post… and you have some very valid concerns with object placement in a lot of them *grin* Too funny.. and a great way to start off the morning :)

I love fruit. I always say you are what you eat.

And yes, they did wear their slacks snug back in the day. That fellow with the movie camera even appears to have a little mooseknuckle action going on.

Love it all. I like to think there was a sense of humor going on there that you don’t see today. Laugh though we will about tight polyester pants and phallic innuendo (no pun inteded LOL), I think this look back in time does show how PC we’ve become since then. (What? Alcohol right out there on view? People will think we drink! Gasp!)

I somehow think it’s all a reaction to the Leave It to Beaver propriety. It rocks!

OK. Yes, their pants were that tight (yeehaw!). I knew a guy or two that stuffed their pants to “enhance” themselves like the girls would stuff their bras. And, yes, we did drink back in the day (and, we still do thankfully). I loved this. Who posed these people?????

Hilarious post! The person in charge of *product placement* in those photos deserved a bonus.

Trying not to guffaw out loud at work… I did read somewhere that Anita Loos said (in the 80s, I think) “if I were writing it now I’d call it Gentlemen Prefer Gentlemen.”

I didn’t realize building airplanes was a thing back in the day for two adult men to do…who knew? And wearing sweaters with perfectly coiffed hair to boot!

Thanks for the giggle! : ) Oh yes, trousers were tighter back then, so much nicer than the grunge/baggy style lately.

Too flippin’ funny! Does the fellow on the left of the bottom pic look a bit like Chris Hyndman? Or is it just the pose????

Wow – what a post! I love the Granny and Gladys post most – though I’m glad that someone clarified that they were building an airplane in that one shot – I couldn’t really get my head around it…

    P.S. Wonder what they’re taking pictures of…?
