eight days later

Two pounds of wool are gone, but now they are plied yarn!
2pounds

The brownish is border leicester, the white is mystery wool of shorter and somewhat coarser fibers.

You can see it has its problems, but overall I am pleased.  I still have to wet/wash it and weight it…  I think I have about 600 yards. I have some clue, because I used this to skein most of it.  Enough definitely (I think) for a vest for me, maybe a sweater for me, but not enough for a dh sweater.  Oh well, I still haven’t finished his from January!  But my pal picked up the first sleeve for me, maybe it’s the kick in the butt I need.

Seriously not at all a pretty tool, but handy, and cost all of $3.33.  And I can cut it shorter to make 1.5 yard skeins vs these 2 yard skeins.

I took (right? not brought?) some fiber locks I’ve had for a few years with me to Pogo’s, to get her opinion on spinning them. She said sure! Comb them out a bit with a slicker brush and spin away.
4ozromney mysterylocks
4 oz of romney locks, and maybe an ounce of mystery locks; bits of orange in front are combed out and ready to go! I thought I was going to use the orange to needle felt designs on the felted mocassins (pics at bottom of this post)… but they never made it to anything like fitting. So sad… my fantasy of woodland sprite (swamp queen?) won’t have these boots (yet? I may do something with them someday).

Check out the goody bag Pogo sent us home with!
goodybag
From the upper left: more of the white fiber; some brown beginner fiber, softer than the white but not quite as nice as the border leicester; 2 ounces of merino top!; 4 oz of 50/50 wool/mohair roving! There were only 4 of us in the class, and three of us were handed bags with purple/blue/pinkish roving… I lusted a bit after this more ochrey greenish color. Knowing that most folks don’t find this color as appealing as purple, I told the woman who first got the ochre… ‘you know, if you would rather have the purple roving, I would be very happy to have the ochre’… and she said she’d rather! (the purple was lovely too).

Funny - I always thought that roving came in “natural” colors - those romney locks are other-worldly - will probably spin into some cool stuff (I’m a bright color girl myself). And yes, the ochre looks like you, swamp queen.

Btw, you’re not forsaking knitting for spinning are you? You seem to a bit, um, focused of late…

That yarn is amazing! Good for you. What a great goodie bag you got to take home too. I haven’t had a chance to spin for a couple of weeks; this post is really making me want to get back at it!

Your yarn looks like it plied up nicely. Where did you get your PVC pipe for your niddy-noddy? I want to make a shorter centre section for mine, but haven’t been able to find any place that sells it yet in Augusta.

Hey, that looks an awful lot like my niddy noddy! :) Jeanne has center shafts that she switches in and out, depending on what size skein she’s after.

Oh My Gosh! Your yarn is GORGEOUS! Can’t wait to see what the little bits spin up into. Isn’t the surprise the greatest part?!

Having recently spun and plied nearly 3 pounds of yarn for one sweater, I totally appreciate the feat you have accomplished. And I love the ragg look.

Wow, it looks so fine. I just loved that colours on the finished yarn. I have been spinning a tiny little bit, but just caught up in some SockMadness these days. I should have been sewing a bit too….
